Want a change from that flat piece of paper, or canvas? How about a block of wood! Here are a few projects I started with some old wooden blocks. But just a plain piece or two, cut from a 2×4 can be a great base for an assemblage. Sand the corners down, paint the wood, and antique it, and you will soon forget it’s just a piece of wood. You can add a rusted altoid tin, nails, rusty stars, a rusty filigree corner, or even glass drawer knobs. It’s a great base to screw, nail, and glue whatever you might find in that box of little goodies sitting in the corner of your art table. The main thing is to have fun!
