Folksy Curious Medallions

By Gale Blair

I took an adventure with the new Medallion Folksy No.1 and No.2 – these quirky medallions are a wonderful backdrop for your art projects.I love the odd look these bits lend to the artworks.

For both I started by spray painting the pieces with Antiqued Rubbed Bronze spray paint. The darker bits in both finished pieces are the spray painted pieces which I’ve etched with an awl for added texture and then antiqued with Stayzon Saddle Brown.

The gorgeous rusted effect is created using the Modern Masters Iron Paint and rusting solution.  This is a two-step process painting the pieces with the iron paint (two coats applied generously) and then applying the rusting solution after the paint is completely dry.  To achieve this level of rusting I applied the rusting solution three or four times.  First time I covered the whole piece and then subsequent times I applied in areas that required more rusting.

The silvered bits were achieved by applying Ice Blue InkaGold.  Which I then sanded lightly to grunge it up and used Stayzon Saddle Brown to antique.

Et Voila!
