Beatrix Potter’s Journal is a compilation of bits and pieces of the artist’s life from 1882, at the age of 16, until 1913, when she married. The journal is fairly large, measuring 11.5 by 10 inches, with padded covers.
This is beautifully illustrated book, with watercolor paintings, ephemera, and old photos. It contains several foldouts of maps and letters, even a small photo album.
Embedded in a niche in the back cover is the first The Tale of Peter Rabbit, in the original black and white print.
I have always wanted to create a really beautiful journal, and when I first saw this book, I knew it would be a great example of the way I would want mine to resemble.
Miss Potter, a movie starring Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor, is a charming story loosely based on the biography of Beatrix Potter. As an artist, I loved seeing the studio, the home, and all the beautiful landscape which surrounds this story.
Both of these offerings would make wonderful gifts for any artists in your family. You will find more information on both of these in the sidebar. And I love to know you if have seen either of these, and hear your opinion.
Rande,
I have the journal and I agree, it’s just lovely. I was lucky to find it at Sam’s for just $12! I couldn’t believe it because it is really a spectacular book. The movie is a favorite of mine also. You’re right. What a wonderful gift the two of them would make.
Happy Holidays,
Anya
