On a recent trip to the DC Big Flea Antique Market I visited a regular vendor’s booth to look at the gorgeous Reliquaries he carries. His stock never disappoints and one resonated in particular this time. It had some small pearls and paper quilling surrounding the religious photos. I hadn’t seen or thought about quilling in a long time, but it’s a craft I used to enjoy. By cutting the 1/8″ wide papers and rolling them with a slotted tool, glueing and shaping them, one can make a variety of shapes. I found some quilling strips that came with gilded edges and got out my supplies of pearls, rhinestones and beads and set to work to embellish this trio of Rosette Ornaments which were reminiscent of the Reliquary I saw at the Antique Market. What’s your source of inspiration?
METHOD:
- Spray paint the Layered Rosettes. In these examples I chose to use the layers separately.
- Add a beautiful face, some quilled paper, some rhinestones, pearls and beads.
