I recently pinned this idea and I thought it would fun to expand on the cut canvas idea, with an Amazing Alterable twist.
To start, I painted my raw canvas with several colors of Spray Mist. I love to let them mix and mingle and pool to create a one of a kind look.
I placed my Amazing Alterable piece on the canvas and drew a rough outline as a guide to cut the canvas.
I cut the shape with an Xacto knife and finished the edge with blanket stitch. (I used red wax linen thread for added strength)
I gave my Amazing Alterable piece a quick spray of gesso spray, not minding if a the coverage was incomplete. Once the Amazing Alterable was dry, I drilled holes around the edge of the entire piece. This is where I would attach the Alterable to the canvas.
Using black wax thread, I attached the Amazing Alterable piece to the canvas, securing and stretching as needed.
Special note: Be gentle with the pressure when stitching. As you can see, I broke the arm and foot, but embraced the ‘mistake’. Overall, it really enhanced the idea I had. So no mistake was actually made. 🙂
I covered a scrap piece of chipboard with a piece of vintage paper and adhered it to the backside of the canvas. You can also leave it open for a different look.
To finish my canvas, I added a hand-stamped metal sentiment and secured it to the canvas with upholstery nails. (brads would work as well)
