The Ornate Medallion Frame is fit for royalty and I’ve put three medallions together in the 3 Times Royalty Banner.  I used the Royalty 20 image, cutting up the eyes, nose and lips into three pieces. To add some mystery and depth, I put the face behind microscope slides which were treated with glass mirror spray paint.  I scratched away enough of the paint to make the features visible.

In the end, I glued the 3 medallions onto a thin black ribbon with bows. They seem formal, like a tuxedo, which is fit for a visit with royalty.

Frame how to
I scanned the frame pieces into Photoshop and edited the size of the features to fit into the frames. By dropping the opacity, I can judge which size is correct.
Layout of face and frames
Once the face is sized properly in Photoshop, I print it out and trace out the sections needed for each piece.

METHOD:

  • Paint the medallion frame to your desired color. I love using two colors for contrast, and in this case, I used silver and white.
  • Scan in the frame pieces to Photoshop and bring in the beautiful face to adjust for size. By dropping the opacity you can check to be sure that the features fit the frames.
  • Spray glass mirror paint onto some microscope slides and cut them to size to fit the frames.
  • Print out, cut out and glue all the pieces together. Add a matching ribbon.

So beautiful! I know that is no surprise because it is your work–which is always amazing–but it bears repeating. Love your technique of scratching the mirror paint!

  2. absolutely stunning! I’ve never used mirror paint … I don’t know if I should thank you for the inspiration or not – more supplies – argh!
