The Academy of Royal Arborists by Julie Loeschke

Guest Designer: Story and artwork by Julie Loeschke

The Academy of Royal Arborists is an ancient order dedicated to the care of the trees contained in the King’s gardens and forests.  Its origins are lost in the mists of time.  Some whispered that their work was so remarkable that the Academy employed magic.  However, the arborists would say, “No, if you listen closely and with love, the trees themselves will tell you what they need”.

The Academy long ago faded away, but their knowledge has sifted down and been spread amongst the modern arborists and gardeners.

Second is the emblem of the Academy itself.  It shows the golden (or gifted) hand of the arborist restoring life to a dying tree.  Or perhaps it is the hand of God restoring His creation.  We may never know. But these beautiful emblems of ancient times will be treasured as symbols of a noble tradition and calling.
