Embellished Swan Queen by Michelle Talley

Greetings, everyone!  Michelle Talley, here.  I hope this summer has gotten off to a good start for all!  Lots of news in our world! We felt that we needed to shake up our routine, so we decided to try to sell our big old house and find a cool loft to call our new home.  Before we knew what hit us, we found the perfect place, so we went into overdrive, got our house ready, listed it and in about 3 weeks-ish we sold our place and got the loft.  Then we went to LA, because an indie film our Justin worked on was having a premier at the Mann’s Chinese Theater!  Super cool!!  So then, now it is the paperwork, inspection, etc., phase of the house project and I dislike waiting, my least favorite part!

Actually, that worked out well because the Curious Swan Medallion and the Relics Medallions are now in the PaperWhimsy arsenal of yummy divine things to covet, love and hoard… You can see where this is going!!!

Anyway, I decided that this Angel is a fierce protector, she has the medal to prove it, and she has the beautiful sparkly adornments because, well… just because.

Products used available from PaperWhimsy:

Sheet 211 for face

Curious Swan Angel Medallion

Relics Medallion

Inka Gold Old Silver

Other goodies: Oval brass pendant, rhinestone chain, flatback rhinestones, patina paint in iron and copper, aging solution, PanPastel in olive and brown, ModPodge, E6000, Superglue

Process:

I started by painting all the pieces of the angel with InkaGold, and before that dried I brushed on the patina paint (Modern Masters makes great patina paints as well as the activator/aging solution).  I overlapped the two colors (iron and copper) and when mostly dry I dabbed on the aging solution.

I painted the medallion the same way but with a lighter hand. While that was drying, I glued the beautiful face to the brass finding.  I used superglue to attach the chain and the crystal flats around the angel’s face and on her crown. (As an aside, I think we should ALL have a crown.)

Once everything was dry, I brushed on the PanPastel powder to give an overall aged appearance.  I glued down everything that needed gluing with the E6000, and the chain around the center with superglue. So now our beautiful, fierce protector is ready to guard us, and look darned good while she is at it!

Happy July, everyone!
