Welcome to May! The cold weather is hopefully over, everything is coming back to life with a bang, and windows left open bring in the sweet smell of spring. I love the month of May, my son was born in May, and a sweeter gift was never given. Mothers Day is the 10th of May. A sweet way to honor mothers, ours, honorary mothers, all those who fill that inexplicable space in our hearts. I love being a mom, every bit of it, the good and the not so good! I had a great mama, full of hugs and kisses and inspiration, I always knew I was loved, even when I maybe wasn’t easy to like! She was my best friend, and I learned so much from her. I miss her every single minute, of every day. I have a bottle of her perfume, and every now and then, I open the bottle and close my eyes, and for just a second, there she is.
My project for May is for all the mama’s in the world, we sometimes forget how important we can be in life, and how we are really never forgotten. Happy Mothers Day, in all the different ways we are mothers.
“If I had a flower for every time I thought of my mother, I could dance in my garden forever.
(a bit of creative license with an Alfred Tennyson quote)
Supplies from PaperWhimsy:
Amazing Alterables Garden Cottage Un No.2
Other supplies: moss; tiny rock; 2 crystal flats; small brass flourish; small resin flower flat; ModPodge; E6000 glue; Metal effects oxidizing iron paint
My Process:
I started by painting the garden fence and the sides and back of the cottage with the metal effects paint. While very smelly, I love the finish of the metal effects paint. All put together with E6000.
When the paint was dry I used the ModPodge to place the cottage window image and our dancing girl. I embellished the base with bits of moss, a tiny rock, and a rose. The garden gates are covered with the climbing roses. Crystal flats, a resin flower and brass flourish adorn the cottage rooftop. I cut out the words and danced them across the cottage. We are never to old to dance in our garden, and think of our mothers…
