A short while ago, the Paperwhimsy forum had a Canvas Back Swap. I loved doing the project, and wanted to make another, a little larger. Here I used a gallery wrapped canvas, sized 8×8. One of the discussions we had during the swap, was how we would cover the back frame, and in some cases hide the canvas edges and/or staples. As I was looking around, I ran across this Rusty Ceiling Tile, and it was the perfect size.
I was able to easily cut the center out of the ceiling tile with tin snips. I left about 1/2 inch along the inside frame. Then clipped to the corners. On a sharp edge, I hammered that edge flat, to the back of the tile. This leaves a nice smooth edge.
I randomly painted the the canvas and ceiling tile with a mix of cream and light aqua acrylic paint. Before it was dry, I wiped it off with a paper towel, leaving paint in the crevases. I also added a bit of brown ink around the edges.
I selected Miss Anastasia Plum from the new Collage Sheet #176. Then glued to a piece of cardboard, sized to fit the back opening, covered with scrapbook paper. A few velvet leaves, and bare twigs, and the inside was finished. On the bottom of the frame, I added a small scrap of scrim fabric, and a rusted label holder. Add a hanger on the back, and it’s ready for display.
Rande What a wonderful Shrine! It is one of my favorite project ideas to work with. and what a clever idea to use the ceiling tin with paint. This looks fabulous. I am working with tin for some things to sell at jammers weekend. shhhh don’t tell!!!!
I love how this whole collage turned out!!
