This project brings spring into your home, studio, or office and is a delight to create. I made chipboard houses using Antiquities 09 JPG and Antiquities 01 JPG Hybrid Background Images. I also used Art Bits 08 PNG
I cropped the houses from Art Bits 08 PNG in my Photoshop program. I opened the Antiquities 09 JPG and Antiquities 01 JPG Hybrid background images in Photoshop and added the Art Bits house image as a second layer. I saved this image and inserted as a picture in my Microsoft word program. I was able to put two houses on a page. Print the image on to double matte photo paper.
Note: you can also overprint the houses onto PaperWhimsy background papers or scrapbook paper.
The images were then collaged on to chipboard using gel matte. Once dry, cut out houses using a utility knife (and a helpful husband) or X-Acto knife and a straight edge. Paint the side edges with brown craft paint (or distress with ink). Add various images. I used Art Bits 06 PNG and Sheet 252. The butterflies were layered to give a 3D look. Buttons, charms, Pearls Olivine Pearl embellishments and rusty houses were added to the houses.
Glue bamboo skewers, or wooden dowel rods to the back of the houses. I cut a piece of florist foam and tucked various mosses on the foam. Little buttons and butterfly accents (glued on to skewers) were added for dimension.
Variations:
Paint the sweet Paper Mache Flower Pot and tuck foam and moss inside. Place your little chipboard houses inside.
The houses could be changed out by season, adding a wonderful collection of whimsy to your home decor year round.
Collage Art Inspirations from Nancy Maxwell James
Oh Nancy – these are absolutely gorgeous!!!
Love your chipboard houses Nancy, and the window box to display them is delightful!Great idea!
What fun! I am always in awe of what you can do with a humble piece of paper.
delightful creations from your Spirit
This is so pretty. It would look wonderful in my kitchen window.
Your boxes are awesome and inspirational. I’m collaborating with a crafter that makes dog cookies, other dog creations. My husband and I are going to make memorial boxes for “passed on pets”. Your boxes helped give me some ideas of how to make them be more individual. Can add more dimension to them for putting the dogs collar, tags, etc. in them. Thanks for the ideas.
It’s me again. sorry for pestering but wondering where I can find the chipboard houses and also what weight or kind of chipboard was used to make these houses? I’d sure appreciate the info. Love your stuff, I keep being so awestruck by your constant creations. Thx for info.
