Capture Spring

I think the full moons (three days of them!) at the end of March, peeking through my window and basking me in its glow, sparked my imagination 🙂  I’m never quite sure where I’ll end up when I begin, but the adventure of art is always interesting and surprising.  I wanted to do something with the new Immense sized Curious Crown Medallion and I envisioned something with a hand because hands are so evocative.

The hand I grabbed (pun intended) is from a cool image I found on Wikimedia Commons (check out the newsletter for the free download). The bee is from Botanique 22. The flower is from Digi 134. Top background and label in the bottom background are from Digi 259

I sprayed the pieces first with Rust-Oleum paint (Antique Brass Medallion) and then started adding texture using Gold Brown Inka Gold.  I glob it on, scratch it up, glob on a bit more.  I want texture so I’m not too precise with the application.

For the crown piece I used gold leaf haphazardly applied over the spray paint so it looked aged. The tree bits I rusted up using Modern Masters Reactive Iron Paint and the Rust Activator. The rust activator is kind of old and the rusting was a bit bland so I enhanced it with Pan Pastel Orange – I dipped the brush in water, dabbed it into the Pan Pastel and brushed it on unevenly in spots on the branches and used my finger to blend it in.  Happy surprises are always the best (two thumbs and one orange finger up!). I thought the orange Pan Pastel worked the trick where the Rust Activator didn’t.

Some in-process shots from my work table (and yes, I do use Uhu Glue Stick to glue all the papers onto the wood and onto each other ~ another twenty-five thumbs up for ease of application because I am a lazy baby):
