Mother Nature

I’ve been reading Pompeii: A Novel by Robert Harris about the Aquarius Attillus trying to decipher the disruption of the water in the days before the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. It influenced me to make a piece with the theme of shells and nature, a Mother Nature of sorts.  Soft gold, white and pink tones show her here at her most gentle.  She wears shell wings, and has a flower halo and her dress is a niche with delicate pink background filled with a leaf and a shell.

MATERIALS USED:

METHOD:

  • Paint and assemble the Angel Reliquary.
  • For this piece the wings are covered with tiny shells which have been spray painted and sprinkled with glass glitter.
  • Another flower is made from shells and finished with a crystal cabochon for the center.
  • The flower behind the angel’s head and the leaf were recycled from an old metal wall sculpture.
  • A shell was added into the niche.
