Curious Tree Queen

April is here, and it is a very happening month. If you look up fun facts about April, the list goes on and on. Lots of interesting things are noted/celebrated around the world. I decided to focus on Earth Day. Why? I wanted to play with the oh so cool Curious Tree Medallion! I also wanted to pay homage to all of the magical things that surround us, and that we sometimes take for granted.

So I decided to make up a benevolent gal who has a thing about trees. The only reason we know about her, is because on a nice walk, I came upon a very curious medallion at the base of a very old tree. I know, you just can’t make this stuff up! Anyway, I too was curious, so I picked it up and decided, finders keepers…. She is very lovely, and she watches over the trees that cover the land. She has a crown, a cross and the roots, i.e. wire, to bind her to her vow. It’s a pretty lofty gig, but good for her! So at some point this month, lets all take the time to go hug a tree, they deserve it!

Other supplies: Relics and Artifacts Cross (accoutrements), Cream Chalk paint, Old Gold paint, Patina spray, brown stamp pad, distressed ink stamp, wire, large jump ring, crystal flats, glass glitter, jeweled bead, ModPodge

Method:

I started by painting all the pieces, and after they dried I used the patina to age and color everything. I used a stamp and brown ink to grunge up the two top pieces of the medallion.

I punched a hole in the back piece of the medallion so I could attach the cross with a large jump ring.

I used ModPodge to adhere her face and glue to add the glass glitter, crystal flats and the jeweled bead.

I finished her by wrapping wire around the piece, and for making a loop for hanging.

Ciao for now, until May,

Michelle
