Happy New Year from Minneapolis! I am cozied up in our snow globe, I mean house, happy that there is snow on the ground and we do not have to shovel one bit of it!!! I hope that all of you found joy this past year, and that 2016 will bring more love and happiness into all of our lives.
After all that has gone on in our own lives and around the world, I thought about stillness. Taking a moment or two, to be still and be present in the right now. We are always so busy, if not in the physical sense, then in our minds. The running around, searching for something, not even sure of what we want or need. Is something missing? Or did we just not look hard enough to see that what we need is right here, waiting for us to acknowledge it. My New Years wish for all of us, is to discover that what we need can be found in our lives and hearts. That if we look, we can take the time to see, and by seeing, we can find joy in the little things of our everyday lives.
My project came about because of my infatuation with the stunning series of photographs that Gale shot for the new Art Sheet series! It took me a long time to get this project going because I could NOT pick which yummy divine images to use!!!! I closed my eyes, picked, and off I went. My literal and figurative homage to finding a still life.
Products from PaperWhimsy:
Gothic Banner 01
Photo Art Sheets: 008 & 010
Other supplies: Red art marker, stamp, old linen colored ink pad, brown and white powder pigment, ball chain, brass embellishment, crystal flat, ModPodge, E6000
I cut out my two images, and used the ModPodge to adhere them to the banner. While that was
drying, I used the red marker to color the the base of the wings, the frame piece and the back
embellishment/hanger. I layered the pigment powder until I got the color I wanted and then used
the stamp and ink to doll it up a bit. Yes, I waited for it to dry and then I used the E6000 to put it
all together. I took a piece of ball chain and dropped it over the frame, and used the E6000 to
adhere that and the other embellishments. Finished!
Be happy in this new year, stay warm and I will chat with you again!
