Steampunk Glitz & Grunge by Theresa mARTin

This Steampunk doll is the perfect starter for a Steampunk sculpture. I used metallic paints, wire and beads to get the Steampunk feel. Gale’s gears are the perfect Victorian touch and the colors add to the theme. Inside the skirt is a large rusted heart.  The lace is a nice contrast to the gears and metallic coloring. The spiky beads and wire add some pop to her skirt.

METHOD

  • Put together the figure. This one is easier if you turn her upside down when you are attaching her skirt.
  • Paint the figure. I used Inka Gold, Metallic Acrylic Paints and some brown spray paint to ‘dirty’ her up a bit.
  • I used a wire wrapper to wrap copper wire into springs which were then attached to her skirt with wire.
  • Next, the beads were attached to skirt with wire. This wire also helped hold on the springs.
  • I painted some lace and used one piece for her blouse and one for the back.
  • Print out and use the face and top hat.
  • I used the gears to add to her dress and skirt.
  • Inside the skirt I placed a large rusted heart.
