I love displaying Patriotic items in my home year round and the summer is a perfect time to add old glory to your decor. The sweet little Patriotic poppets work perfectly for this and can be found in the Paper Whimsy shoppe.
Create several in varying sizes and add little “poppet” vignettes around your home or picnic table. They would make a darling centerpiece for Fourth of July. I hope you will get your Red, White and Blue on and create some projects with “Old Glory” in mind!
Technique:
(1) This little spool was created using an empty cornmeal container which is the perfect size. Empty oatmeal and baking soda containers also work well. I covered the container with pattern paper using Matte Gel Medium. Old sheet music was added to that layer.
(2) I added two circles to the top and bottom of the container by tracing them on to cardboard. Place pattern paper on circle and attach using Matte Gel Medium. On top circle, add doilies and another folded fan. The fan has been joined to make one large rosette. Added elements from Salmagundi Patriotic. Attach old vintage buttons to outside rim with E6000 glue. Dab little circles of Silver Stickles along edges in between buttons. Glue circles to top and bottom of container to form a “spool”.
(3) Fold strips of paper (3 inches wide) to make a half fan to adorn the front. Add bits of silver stickles to folded fan. Once dry, glue on front of container. The main poppet I adhered to a lightweight cardboard with Matte Gel Medium. Once dry, cut out with scissors.
(4) Glue to front of folded fan using E6000 glue, clothespins can hold her in place while the glue sets up. Tuck little flags behind image. Add more figures around the container and word phrases using Matte Gel Medium.
