All it took was a few little fiber samplers, and I was right back into my fabric stash to see what I had that would match. But first, I needed to look through my fabric images. I only have a few, so I want to be able to incorporate them into whatever I make. So deciding on the image was done, then background fabrics. But something was missing. I needed another fabric to use for framing the image. Nothing seemed to be working. ALready had some lace and scrim, just needed that one special piece. Then I remember I now have digi sheets! And I can print them on fabric. ANd if I can tweak the colors on the printer just right, I may be able to come up with a color that might work with the other fabrics. I ended up selecting Digisheet #28. I adjusted the color settings on my printer, to give the printout a more greenish tint. By pushing the cyan and yellow high, and the magenta low, I found a green that would match, almost perfectly. I laid the fabric pieces on the batik fabric background, and was ready for the next steps. I lightly glued the image to the printed digisheet, and that, lightly glued to the background fabric. I secured the corners with brads.
I decided to use a little green roving and felted it along the bottom of the image of the girl. With small strips of scrim, I framed the rest of the image. I attached the scrim with green small seed beads. Below the felting, I added a short piece of lace scrap, ribbon, and Velvet Leaves. Now it was time for the fun part. Adding the Stef Francis Fibers and those gorgeous Olivine Leaf Beads. To finish the composition, I added a rusty star, grungy tag, little birdhouse charm, and a rusty wire for hanging. Oh, and little more ribbon.
SO if you can’t find that one little piece for a fabric collage, think digisheets!
