Trying Faux Techniques

I have loved the look of dried flowers.  But they are so fragile, and not practical to try and use in some artwork.  So, I thought I would see if I could make some paper flowers look like they were dried and pressed in an old book.  the experiement didn’t turn out as I had planned, but was still happy with the result of the mutted flowers.  I first painted the flowers and velvet leaves with a brown paint, and flattened the flowers.  When dry, they were a bit dull so I dry brush painted some metallic painted over the flowers and leaves.

The scroll work are two pieces stacked, and glued.  While I had the glue in hand, I scribbles it over the top surface and let dry.  Then the scrolls were painted with a brown, gold and rust painted on with a sponge, and sealed.  Finally added a few tiny beads in the center of the flowers, a little ribbon bow, and grungy tag.

Here are the items I used for this faux nature collage.

Velvet leaves, Prima Petals, Prima Halloween Flowers
